Take Two on Tuesday

So maybe Friday did not go entirely as I planned....

I took the weekend to relax a bit, come up with a classroom management update game plan, and also worked on my plan of action for my tough kiddo. With the support of my mentor teacher, the vice principal, and the specialist teachers, we are going to be implementing a plan that highlights this kiddo’s positive behaviors and helps him identify what behaviors we are going to work on. He wrote out his our four goals based on the school guidelines. All staff involved and the student have a copy of these goals and will be looking for opportunities to give him a tally for meeting the goal. Those tallies earn him Cougar Paw Cash he can use at the student store. There is more to it but that's the skinny.

According to last year’s teacher, rewards for demonstrating positive behavior worked wonders for him. So that’s the plan. Lots of positive reinforcement. Lots. I am happy to say that so far, the tallies are a good reinforcer. The list of goals on his desk are an easy tool to discreetly direct him too when he is getting off task in class and help refocus him.

My hope is that tomorrow during my second formal evaluation I can continue to support him in making those positive choices. The lesson I will be observed teaching tomorrow is a vocabulary lesson. The kiddos will be using a modified version of the Frayer Model for create a vocabulary booklet. If you'd like to check out the 9 page booklet I whipped up, you can see it here or click on the image. We will see how the kiddos do tomorrow when they get their packets and how I do with the lesson. Think positive!
