Splendid Saturday Snapshot and Sharing

Yesterday was splendid. Yup, splendid is the only accurate descriptor. It started with the husband and I accidentally stumbling upon our local farmers market. I talked about going earlier in the summer but it completely slipped my mind. I actually had no idea it was still even going on.

I love farmers markets so it was a fun surprise. All of the fresh produce, handmade goods, and the giant bundles of flowers for cheap. Not only did the hubs get me a giant purple bouquet but we also picked up a set of homemade WSU Cougar mouse pads!

Eventually we made it to the store we initially set out to go to. The other day while on the hunt for a hole-in-the-wall hot hot dog shop that sells the "Seattle Dog", we passed an educational store that was unfortunately closed already. I've been eager all week to go back and check it out. I was not disappointed.

Maybe it's just because I'm new to all the exciting things in education but as soon as I walked in, I wanted to open my wallet and shout "Just take my money! I want it all!" Of course, husband was there and I'm sure that sort of action would have gotten all my cards taken away from me. But it really was great.

I picked up a few Labor Day Weekend sale items I know I can use for now. The best part was that they had laminating for only a $1 a foot. I was able to get my giant pencil laminated for $3.50 which was WAY better than the $16 I was quoted at Staples. Sure, I could have gotten it laminated the school but the wait list for that is nearly two weeks out and I am impatient. For those of you in the Puget Sound area, the store is called Kent Teaching and Toys. Check it out. I will definitely be going back there!

On top of all that fun stuff, I got a number if errands done and scored adorable wedges at Fred Meyer's sale. With my pencil laminated, I was able to put it all together and get it read to hang Tuesday morning. (I originally was going to use these free writing process posters, but I decided to make my own to match the colors of my cooperating teacher's classroom and so that they could be bilingual for our Spanish speaking kiddos.)

Lastly, time to reveal the winner from my very first ever giveaway!
Congratulations Allie!

You can expect an email from me in the next day or so. Since I had such a good day, I wanted to spread a little love. I'm sharing are some book labels I originally created for myself but thought others might enjoy, they come in Neon and Pastels! Enjoy and have a splendid weekend of your own!

And if you are feeling adventurous, check out this scavenger hunt being hosted by Diane at Fifth in the Middle and Amelia at Where the Wild Things Learn. Diane has reached 1000 followers and Amelia is celebrating her 1 year blogiversary.

  1. Farmer's markets are the best. I especially love when I visit one when I'm out of town on vacation. I love your pencil display.

  3. I am curious how did you make your pencil?

    1. I just used large pieces of construction paper for the brown, white, and pink and then a piece of butcher paper for the yellow. I drew out the whole shape on the yellow first and then that to trace each of the separate pieces and glued them on top of the yellow. Once all the pieces were glued together, I just ran it through a lamination to protect it. Each of the write process steps were printed and laminated as well. I used a small piece of Velcro to attach them to the pencil so I can remove them when I need.

      Hope that helps!
