Wednesday Whatnots

I apologize in advance for the randomness of this blog post but it is what it is. haha

First, I don't know about you but I absolutely love receiving packages! I especially love when those packages are coming from exciting places such as New Zealand. When I won a giveaway from Erin over at The E-Z Class I was super excited! Not only was the giveaway for some adorable picture books, but they are picture books by New Zealand authors. How nifty is that? My collection of books is really in need of some growth and the two books I received from Erin are a great addition.

On top of the books, she also included some candy from New Zealand. I have a serious sweet tooth so I was all about the candy. I have eagerly been checking the mail each day after school awaiting my package. Well today it finally came!

Let me share a little about my winnings!

I received the following books:
Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy by Lynley Dodd
I will have to read this one a few more times before I share it. It is such a cute book but a real tongue twister!

My Daddy Ate an Apple By Craig Smith and Illustrated by Scott Tulloch
This one even comes with a CD of the book in song and it was just publish this October. After reading it for the first time, I can't wait to share this silly book with my third graders. The ending is a pretty funny surprise that I am positive is going to get quite a reaction from the kiddos.

Another fun note about this week, yesterday was our College and Career day. As part of our activities, I had student take a picture in my college graduation robe. As they took turns getting their photos, I asked them about what they think they might do after high school graduation. We also completed our writing about college, trade schools, and the military. It was really eye opening to see what students wrote about and what kind of professions they are interested in. We also had a number of kiddos who plan on being future Vandals at the University of Idaho now. I wonder where they got that awesome idea from? :)

If you are interested in using the writing paper I used, you can find it here. I ended up changing the wording after we used them. I'm so indecisive sometimes and keep changing my mind even after I use things. Clip art credit to Scrappin'  Doodles once again. I'm a wee bit addicted to their clip art lately if you hadn't noticed! (These papers don't match up with the photos of the kiddos in case you're curious.)

More fun events this week, we also got to start looking at our owl pellets today! This is the first time I have ever done owl pellets myself so it's a blast learning with the kids! We will be doing even more tomorrow with the two health classes so expect more updates! Check out this skull and this class we found! I think I was more excited than the kiddos who found them!
